Well, it happened. Christmas has once again left and swiftly as it came. Things felt a little different this season. First and foremost it was special because I felt like Nadia was old enough this year to begin to understand the story of Jesus' birth. It was really special for me to share the story with her this year. It was really neat to watch her interest in it grow and, in fact, she keeps asking me if I "still know the story about baby Jesus". (For the record, I do.) We had a birthday party for Jesus with friends which was really fun. I had never done it before but it was neat. I think as the kids get older we can add more to make it more meaningful. This year we stuck to reading the Christmas story, playing Pin the Halo on the Angel and decorating cupcakes.
I had really hoped to do an advent calender but it just didn't happen. Maybe next year. I am still trying to figure out the balance between focusing on Christ and what has become a traditional Christmas in our world. Trying to get a three year old to look more toward giving than receiving proved to be a challenge. None the less it was a good Christmas and I loved the little moments I got to share with my family.
